Today, the Commission is presenting a Communication on the progress to implement the Pact on Migration and Asylum at national and EU level. The implementation of the Pact is a complex process that involves multiple actors. Work is ongoing to implement several legislative acts. Getting the EU and national systems ready by June 2026 requires close collaboration among Member States, the Commission, and EU agencies. This is why the Commission adopted in June 2024 a Common Implementation Plan for Member States setting out 10 building blocks with key tasks and milestones for this transition period. Today's Communication reports on each building block emphasising the important progress made, identifying challenges remaining, and the next steps. What are the next implementation steps? Before June 2026, there are still some key milestones to be reached both at EU and national level. At national level, there are several elements that Member States are asked to submit in this process, including the national implementation plans, the national contingency plans, and the national strategies.
